Ir. Arif Habibal Umam, S.Si., M.Sc., IPM. is an academic and researcher in the field of forestry and the environment with a strong focus on biodiversity conservation, empowerment of forest communities, and sustainable natural resource management. His educational background in science and forestry, along with his recognition as an Associate Professional Engineer, form a solid scientific foundation in studying various ecological and social issues in Indonesia’s tropical forest areas. His research on the diversity, evenness, and richness of vegetation in the Lae Kombih Grand Forest in Subulussalam City demonstrates his commitment to the preservation of forest ecosystems. On the other hand, he is also actively developing a community empowerment approach through conservation and environmentally friendly coffee cultivation, which is outlined in a textbook for students, as an effort to integrate science and direct practice in the field. His interest in local plants and traditional wisdom is reflected in his phytochemical research on Bakkala (Etlingera elatior) from Aceh, which revealed the potential of ethnobotany in the development of biological resources. In addition, through silvicultural studies in the Buana Sakti community forest, Lampung, he explored the role of community forests in sustainable forestry development.
